The Safe-Tech Elevated Work Platform Training course is an OHSA based program that teaches about the difference types of aerial platforms and components, pre-operation inspection, safe operation requirements including setup, operating the machine and hazard avoidance. This program is suitable for new and existing operators of multiple types of elevated work platforms including boom trucks and aerial work platforms.  It consists of a 4 hour in-class training session followed by practical operator *training/testing. Participants will be provided with the necessary knowledge and skills to correctly and safely operate the scissor lifts and/or boom type equipment specific to your operation. Fall protection training is required as a pre-requisite. Training is offered throughout Ontario including Brampton, Burlington, Cambridge, Cobourg, Hamilton, Kitchener, Markham, Mississauga, Niagara Falls, North Bay, Oakville, Peterborough, Toronto, Waterloo. This program is also available as an Instructor Program “Train the Trainer”.

COMPLIANCE Safe-Tech programs meet or exceed all pertinent guidelines and regulations including components from CSA Standard B354.2-01 (R2013) and is designed within the parameters of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, REGULATION 851. INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENTS as it pertains to elevated Work Platform Safety Training.   The CSA Standard for Elevated Work Platforms identifies the knowledge, practical skills and evaluation requirements required by Elevated Work Platform operators. The practical evaluation requires operators to demonstrate a competency skill level that is equal or greater to the industry accepted measurements. CLASSROOM TRAINING CONTENT

*PRACTICAL TESTING (FOR EXISTING OPERATORS) Practical operator testing is held on-site at your facility and typically follows the in-class session. Operators are tested individually and put through a series of operating tasks and manoeuvres to assess competency and safety awareness on the equipment.  Pre-shift inspection and reporting procedures are also covered.  Average testing time is approximately 30 minutes per operator.  Additional time will be required for testing on 2 or more types of equipment. *PRACTICAL TRAINING (FOR NEW OPERATORS) Participants with limited or no practical operating experience will require practical training prior to practical testing. The duration of practical training varies based on equipment type(s) and aptitude of the operator.  Practical training is an additional charge to this program and should be pre-scheduled.   DURATION & LOCATION
  • 4-hour in-class theory held on-site at client’s location;
  • Practical testing is typically 30 minutes per person based on one piece of equipment.
  PROGRAM INCLUDES
  • Classroom theory training
  • Practical operating testing on up to 2 pieces of equipment (providing both tests take place at the same time & location as the initial scheduled testing date)
  • Record of training report
  • Written examinations
  • Signed safety rules from each participant
  • Individual wallet certificates (for participants with 80% passing score on both written and practical tests)
  • Wall certificate for company
  Elevated Work Platform Equipment Telescopic Boom – Perfect for areas with limited access in construction and industrial applications.  Easy to adjust drive speed and is a motorized vehicle with a platform and safety rails that can move around a warehouse area. The platform can be raised vertically so that workers can gain entrance to areas that are out of normal reach. Scissor Lift – Typically used for general maintenance and is capable of being set up and operated by one operator.

Duration


Up to 8 hours depending on participants’ experience levels.

Assessment


A passing grade of 75% is required in order to receive a certificate.

Completion


Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a PDF wall certificate and PDF wallet card for their records.
